Hamburger Gyro |
Gyros (pronounced YEER-ohs) are Greek sandwiches that come on pita or flat bread and have Tzatziki sauce.
This version is made with hamburger, and is an easy meal that can be thrown together in 30 minutes!
Hamburger Gyros
Ingredients
1 lb. ground beef
2 Tablespoons water
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup onion, chopped
4 pita or flat breads
1 recipe Gyro Tzatziki Sauce
½ cup diced tomato
½ cup diced red onion
Directions
1. Combine hamburger, water, lemon juice, salt, cumin, oregano, pepper, garlic, and chopped onion in a large bowl. Shape into 4 patties.
2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties 10 to 12 minutes, turning frequently, until cooked through.
3. Cut burgers in half. Place halves lengthwise on each pita. Top each with 2 Tablespoons Gyro Tzatziki Sauce, 2 Tablespoons tomato, and 2 Tablespoons red onion. Roll up and secure with a toothpick.
